Lisa Weir Jewellery
I come from a long family line of seamstresses. As a child I was surrounded by buttons and threads and I always had a needle in my hand patchworking and embroidering. At Art College I brought my textile sensibility to the traditional jewellery techniques of working with metals and stones. Now I’ve come full circle as I blend the two traditions of jewellery making and sewing to create pieces that are just that little bit different from the mainstream. It is the combination of the skills of handcrafting, together with a bohemian and contemporary style that gives my jewellery its particular appeal.
Handmade Jewellery – Made in Ireland
Making my jewellery by hand is very important to me. I get to play with beautiful gemstones and colourful beads; I have to solve problems with my head and hands: where will I hide that knot? How can I join these two strands of beads? I am inspired by the natural beauty of my materials; every gemstone has its own unique, slightly different expression. That’s the appeal for me and hopefully for you.
Colour is a key element in my designs and I love to play with different effects, not only with my semi-precious pieces but also with my bead-woven bracelets and necklaces. Hand-stitched, bead by bead, I love how the pattern slowly emerges and becomes ever more intricate. I am inspired by Native American bead weavers and like to mix their traditional techniques with a more contemporary and urban style. Where I use metal I like to oxidise it and hammer it to give it a hand forged look that can reach all kinds of women.
I work in a little wooden log cabin in my garden, watching the birds hopping through the hedgerows. Surrounded by nature my mind is free to design a wide range of styles that suits several looks: from bohemian chic, free-spirited daywear to elegant and sophisticated evening wear.
